Are There Such Things As Emergency, Last Minute Cheap Flights?

There are times when a sudden illness or death in the family precludes you from the luxury of searching around for low-cost air fares to reach your loved ones. Although most airlines do not offer services to accommodate this situation, Delta does have a bereavement policy in the event of death or imminent death in your immediate family; however, this appears to be only in connection with air travel out of the United States.

Timing is everything; however, there are situations where advance planning for air travel is not possible. Such a situation would be in the event of the death or imminent death of a family member. If you should have to travel out of the United States in order to attend to the responsibilities associated with a family member, some airline offers bereavement fares. These are offered to customers who require last-minute travel options. They are usually refundable and very flexible. In most instances, the fares will be discounted, with the range between 10 to 75% off full fare prices, the average being 50%.

Delta is one airline that offers bereavement fares; however, they must be purchased in person at any Delta ticketing location. The fares are not posted on the official delta.com website. Delta also has a section with information for funeral directors and family members how must transport human remains and personal effect.

In order to qualify for these fares, Delta has specific definitions as to who qualifies as an immediate family member. The list includes: spouse, domestic partner, child, parent, sister, brother, step-parent, step-child, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, stepbrother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and stepsister.

Delta requires documentation in order to prove familial relations and the documentation must be provided at the time the ticket is purchased. Such documentation consists of the passenger's relationship to the deceased, the name and phone number of the funeral home, hospital or hospice facility and the name of the treating physician, if applicable.

Bereavement travel must start within seven days of the death or imminent death of the family member (documentation again required); fares are completely refundable and changes, standby and open returns are permitted; however, stopovers are not. If the traveler is a member of SkyMiles, he may be entitled to Platinum Medallion or North American upgrades.

If you choose to travel with a carrier other than Delta, contacting the airlines may be a viable option. It appears that most airlines have done away with hardship flights and full-price fares may be the only option. The most viable option seems to be looking for last minute flights on websites such as cheaptickets.com, lastminutetravel.com or priceline.com. Sometimes it might be advisable to contact the airlines in the area to which you need to travel, explaining your situation and seeing if they can offer any type of accommodations. Another source, although not as recommended would be to post an ad on Craig's List, being very specific about your travel requirements.

Taking Holidays to Turkey - With a Difference

Having spent the last 15 years taking holidays in Turkey my wife and I are always looking for a nice place to relax and escape the hordes that descend on Turkey's beach resorts during the summer months. Both of us are in the service industry so we are always desperate to "get away from it all". Why Holidays to Turkey all the time I hear you say? Well, my wife is Turkish and she wants to go there at least once a year so I do not really have much choice in the matter.

She always has an excuse to go whether it is for visiting family or friends; there is always someone whom she has not seen for a while. This year we decided on a cheap family holiday and chose to visit a friend who runs a camp site in a secluded valley about 20 miles away from the nearest major holiday town of Fethiye. Due to the fact that we were traveling with our 1 year old son, we decided to go on a schedule flight from London Gatwick to Dalaman in Turkey. The airline we chose for this occasion was an obscure schedule airline called Cyprus Turkish airlines which I had never flown with or heard of anytime in the past. The reason we chose to fly with them is that they offer a whooping 25 kilograms of luggage per person; whereas a lot of the other cheap holiday charters to Turkey offer a tiny allowance of only 15 kilograms.

Due to the fact that we were well and truly stung the previous year, when we thought we had purchased a cheap flight to Turkey only to find out that we had to pay £90 pounds worth of excess luggage (the flight only cost £123) - not a pleasant start to our first family holiday! This time we did our research and I must admit it paid off even though we paid a lot more for the fare; we received free food and drink on board, which a lot of the other cheap holiday airlines do not offer. In fact we were 10 kilos over our allowance as my wife likes to take most of our fixtures and fittings from our family home to our family holiday.

The flight was pleasant enough, no in-flight entertainment, but who needs that with a 1 year old baby in tow. On arrival to Dalaman we were picked up by a Turkish gentleman called Ahmed in a massive jeep type vehicle which looked like something like a monster trucks. It was a very pleasant drive! We drove through beautiful Turkish holiday resorts such as Gocek, Calis beach, Fethiye and Olu-Deniz.
After crossing the holiday resort of Oludeniz and going past the huge Resort of Lykia World, the road turns into a dust track. The road between Olu-deniz and Kabak (the campsite) is carved into the side of huge cliffs, 300 meters above sea level with no barriers to stop vehicles from plunging in to the azure sea below. Thankfully our driver could see the terror in our eyes and drove very calmly and carefully. On arrival to Kabak bay our driver let the 4x4 kick in and we started to descend using a road very similar to a donkey track, in the pitch black.

Once we arrived we were shown our accommodation which consisted of a wooden hut built around a tree, with a balcony and also the added bonus of a shower and toilet! Turan camp consists of 16 bungalows, 6 of which have shower and toilet facilities.

My first night was spent eradicating our mosquito problem with my bare hands. I finally managed to sleep and I was greeted by the most magnificent view in the morning, there in front of me I was presented with the beach and the towering mountains all around us; it was truly awe inspiring. Unfortunately this place really does not know the meaning of health and safety. We were constantly chasing our baby boy all around, who always seemed to find the most dangerous areas to play in. To top things he came out with chicken pox on our second day of the visit.

Kabak bay is on the ancient Lycian way which is a path along the southwestern coast line of Turkey. My plan was to walk some of it, but I did not get any chance since my days were spent looking after baby and keeping him out the sun and away from dangers. Although we were in a truly amazing place, it was not what I had in mind for a cheap family holiday. After 6 days the chicken spots had started to fade and my wife and I thought that enough was enough and decided to check in to an all-Inclusive family holiday resort nearby Fethiye.

I would like to return there someday but definitely without the children. So it looks like that I will be in my late fifties when I can enjoy an alternative holiday. So it is an all inclusive holiday for at least the next 10 years!

Getting To And From Malaga, Costa del Sol, Malaga, Spain

Are you travelling to Malaga in Andalucia or the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain?

If you are then there is simply a bewildering choice of ways to get here. In total there are 118 different Airports from 30 Countries with direct flights to Malaga International Airport. Although there are only 2 direct flights per week from the USA, New York on a Friday & Saturday.

The cheapest and most frequent routes are from the UK. There are 23 UK Airports alone that offer regular flights to Malaga with over 165 weekly flights from the main 4 London Airports!

For those of you traveling from the USA or outside Europe I would recommend getting a cheap flight into the UK and then transferring with one of the "No Frills" airlines to Malaga.

If you still cant find the flight or deal that you are happy with after this then try Ryanair who fly to both Jerez and Granada (About 11/2 hours drive from the Costa del Sol).

Both Germany and France also offer an excellent selection of direct, cheap flights to Malaga if you find yourself transferring from there.

Below are 5 Top Tips for obtaining Low Cost Flights to Malaga..

You don't have to fly both ways with the same airline

You don't have to return to the same Airport

Fly Mid-week

Book as far in advance as possible

The Busier the Airport the better deals on offer, Manchester & Gatwick offer the largest selection of direct flights.

What's here when you get here?

Mountains, Beaches, Nightlife, Untouched Remote Villages, 43 Golf Courses, in a word, everything.

The Costa del Sol is home to both the mass tourist industry and one of the world's most exclusive holiday resorts, Puerto Banus, in Marbella, offering some of the most sophisticated nightlife and restaurants in Europe.

Within 2 hours of Malaga Airport (from November to March) you could be skiing in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, Skiing in the morning, beach in the afternoon, why not!

The area of Andalucia is not just about the Costa del Sol, away from the hustle and bustle you will find remote, untouched, White Andalucian Villages (pueblos) and within 2 hours of Malaga Airport are the historic and unforgettable Cities of Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Cadiz and of course Malaga itself.

My advice is to be brave, hire a car and get out and see everything you can, there really is something for everyone.

Manchester International Airport

Manchester International is the largest airport in the North of England and the twelfth busiest in the world. It has three terminals and is home to over 95 airlines handling over 23 million passengers every year. There are flights from Manchester Airport to over 200 destinations and with the recent approval to build a second runway it is expected to become the UK's second busiest airport over the next 15 years.

Manchester Airport has great transport communications links and offers good access to motorways, railway stations, coaches and bus connections. The airport is about a 30 minute drive from the City Centre via the M56 motorway with a direct link at junction 5. All the terminals and car parks are well signposted from here. If you want to hire a car, there are six main car hire companies on the airport complex and they have desks at all three terminal buildings opposite the arrivals areas. There are also taxi ranks outside all the terminals: the taxis are licensed by Manchester City Council.

The arrivals areas in all three terminals are on the ground floor: all have access to buses and taxi ranks with Skylink walkways connecting to the railway station at the airport. All three departures areas now offer express check-in for certain airlines as well as a good selection of shops, restaurants, bars, banking and money exchange facilities.

Buses to local and national destinations are available from the airport with the main bus station located at Terminal 1. There is a railway station at the airport and Skylink connects the three terminals to the railway station. When you arrive at the train station you are on the upper level and there are escalators, moving walkways and lifts connected to the railway station at the airport. In the station there is a travel centre where you can buy tickets for your onward journey and obtain any other information you may require.

There are more than 12,000 car parking spaces available at Manchester Airport which are split into the short stay and long stay car parks: use the Long Stay Car Park if you wish to park for over 6 hours. All car parks have 24 hour security, frequent patrols and CCTV cover.

If you have left something on the aeroplane, then contact the airline or lost property, but if your luggage has been lost in transit then you will need to contact the ground handling agents contracted by your airline. Left luggage storage facilities are available in Terminals 1 and 2.

As you would expect from a large international airport, Manchester Airport Information provides details on the local weather with a 5 and 10 day forecast and amenities including disabled facilities, internet access, currency exchange/banking and veterinary facilities if you are travelling with your pet from Manchester Airport.

Best Travel Tip For Being Your Own Travel Agent

The other day I overheard a conversation between two women discussing their summer holiday plans. One was telling the other that she had gone to her local travel agent and asked for a cheap package holiday in Spain. The agent had quickly managed to find a holiday that suited and the lady booked it immediately.

The other woman said that she wished she could do the same but had been unable to find a travel agent who could help. Apparently, someone she knew recommended Northern Cyprus to her. The description of its climate, fabulous beaches, beautiful scenery and welcoming local people deeply appealed to her but she had been unable to find any travel agent offering package holidays there. The person who recommended Northern Cyprus to her explained how it was possible to book flights and accommodation online but she felt apprehensive about not going through a travel agent.

I was quite taken aback at hearing this admission of total dependency on travel agents and ignorance of Internet travel sites. After all, this was 2008 in the U.K. where traditional travel agents have long since been marginalised by online travel sites. Yet, as the conversation developed it became apparent that neither woman knew anything about what resources the Internet offers in this respect.

It got me thinking about how many other people there were around who need tips on organizing travel online and when I got home I decided to write down the following seven steps for them.

Step 1: Finding out about the travel destination

Open Google and type into the search box, the name of whatever country or general area you want to holiday in, followed by the words "travel information" or "travel guide". For example; "Spain travel information". Browse several of the sites your search throws up and then decide which ones give you the best travel tips relevant to your holiday needs.

Step 2: Deciding on the actual resort

Use the best sites you find from step 1 to decide which resort or locality offers you most of what you want for your vacation. For example, localities with secluded beaches or beaches with lots of facilities, resorts that have plenty to keep the children occupied or quiet villages in scenic locations, etc. Having familiarised yourself with all that you want to know about the resort or locality, ascertain the nearest airports (or other relevant transportation centres).

Step 3: Finding suitable accommodation

When you have found some resorts that satisfy your criteria, look for suitable accommodation in them. This may require typing a new search term into Google because the sites you have looked at so far may not have sufficient detailed information about specific accommodation in a given locality. They may however have some links to other sites that do. If so, check the links out before starting a new search. If you do need to do a new search, the best search term to use would be something like; Name of resort or locality followed by the word "accommodation". For example if after researching southern Spain, you had decided you liked what you had read about Mojacar as a holiday resort, you would type; "Mojacar accommodation". Here's a tip worth remembering: you may need to refer back to the other website pages that you have already opened so keep them open by doing your accommodation search in a new tab. In case you don't know about using tabs, take a look at your browser tools options and learn how to set your browser up so that you can open new pages in new tabs.

Step 4: Checking cheapest flight availability

When you have ascertained that accommodation exists in your chosen locality, the next step is check out what flights (or other transportation) is available to get you to the resort. Open another tab on your browser and this time type in the search term, "cheapest flights" followed by the name of nearest airport. If there are other, more distant airports that you would be prepared to consider, you might want to run separate searches for each airport. Spend time on checking for flights because quite considerable variations in ticket prices exits, not only from flight operator to flight operator but also from one airport to another even when they are more or less the same distance from your departure airport and operated by the same company. Very significant price variations will also be found by trying different departure and arrival dates.

Step 5: Provisionally book accommodation

Assuming that you establish the availability of flights (or other transportation) at the time you want and within your budget, you will be in a position to provisionally book accommodation. Return to the browser tab you left open with the websites providing accommodation details and follow the instructions for contacting the person or organisation offering the accommodation. Sometimes this will be an automatic online process and sometimes you will need to send an email. Submit the dates you have decided upon from the flight availability research. You will not normally be asked for a deposit at this stage but if you are, inform the accommodation owner that you want them to provisionally hold the dates until after you have booked your flight.

Step 6: Booking your flight

Having received confirmation that the accommodation is available for you between the selected dates, return to the website where you found the cheapest flight deal and book your outgoing and return flights. Very occasionally you might be unlucky and the flights on the selected dates are no longer available. If so you will need to select new dates and redo step 5.

Step 7: Confirm Accommodation

Once you have your flight has been booked you are in a safe position to confirm your accommodation booking. Usually, this will require that a deposit is paid, either online or by bank transfer. Either way, the balance is usually paid upon arrival at the accommodation.

Tips to Get a Cheaper Car Rental For Your Vacation

Let's face it, vacations are expensive and vacation car rentals are just one component of the total cost.

Whether you are taking a vacation and want to drive there, rather than fly, or you are flying to your destination and renting a car while there, you want to plan ahead to get the best price on your rental car... and all the other factors of your rental.

Vacation planning usually takes place months in advance. You many often need to look at many factors when making a budget. You may need to consider the costs of airfare, accommodations, attractions and events, meals and car rental.

When trying to get the cheapest vacation car rental, you will want to find the best price on the vehicle that meets your needs. You want to look a the size of the vehicle, based on the number of passengers, the amount of luggage, and always, gas mileage. The size of the vehicle will often play a large part in determining the price. You need to figure out whether the higher price of getting an SUV or Minivan is justifiable. If you are taking a long road trip, then the comfort and size of a larger vehicle will often
justify it's higher cost. If you're only using the vehicle to travel from the airport to your hotel, and to visit attractions, the money you save by renting a smaller car can be better used to enjoy the actual attractions and events that you visit.

If you are flying to your destination, finding a car rental company that is on site at the airport will save you the time and hassle of having to load your family and all their stuff on a shuttle bus!

The best way to get a cheaper rental is to start looking early and comparing prices. There are lots of car rental companies that are looking for your business and you want to make sure that you're getting the best deal you can.

Internet booking sites provide a quick and easy way of searching multiple companies at once, to get a feel for which company is offering a better rate. By narrowing down your search, then you can also check certain rental company website directly for specials, deals and E-coupons.

You can almost always find a car rental discount code or coupon that will lower the price of your car rental. There are hundreds of membership programs and professional associations that offer discount codes with one or more car rental companies.

Getting the best price on your vacation car rental is merely a matter of planning in advance and looking at all your options, to get the most bang for your buck.

Business Travel With the Airport Shuttle

The airport shuttle affords a timely method of accessing the air terminal with ease, especially for people who take regular flights to various destinations outside the city. This passenger vehicle has a planned schedule that takes it to different designated points in the downtown and the suburban area. This means that a person in need of interlinking transport, whether in the rush hour of the morning or during odd hours, cannot miss the coach. There are fleets meant for business and special event travel, as well as small luxury cars that relay the client upon arrival after a flight to their booked hotels.

Due to its timely run, the airport shuttle serves many of those on regular business calls who can opt for the regular services or make a reservation beforehand, to access a certain car later. In the latter case, it is possible to create an arrangement that stipulates that one is picked at their residential areas on set dates and is taken to their offices. For those looking for alternative public transport in style, there are the limo coaches that besides affording comfort also contain sized luggage compartments, in which to keep briefcases and other effects.

The taxi limo is an example of the state-of-the-art car that provides rounded transport to and fro the air facility. The vehicle is suitable for corporate travel since it affords various interior amenities that give accompaniment throughout the ride before taking the flight. There are some with sleek, long hulls that can accommodate a great number of passengers going into a function. However, the seats are bolstered to provide comfort even when many persons are sharing one platform.

How to Make the Best of Your Short Transit Period at Dubai International Airport

If you are going to be in Dubai in transit or on a layover for a few hours, it's better to stay in the airport than to venture out to see the city for a number of reasons.  At the top of the list is the fact that the roads in Dubai are notorious for heavy traffic, and if you are caught in a traffic jam it might become very difficult to get back to your terminal in time for your next flight.  Since the airport handles a lot of flight traffic, the crowds at the airport terminals are usually high, which makes it tougher to get to your gate on time.

Lounges

There are many dedicated lounges for various international airlines like the British Airlines, KLM, Star Alliance, Air France and Gulf Air.  Emirates has separate lounges for Business Class and First Class travelers.  In addition to this, you can pay to use the Marhaba Lounge, which is an Arabian-themed waiting room that offers buffet food and drinks.  The cost for this lounge is US dollars 24 for four hours.  If you want a place to sleep in and take a shower, you can book yourself a room in the five-star Dubai International Hotel.

Food and drinks

If you have booked your ticket on the Emirates and your transit time is more than 3 hours, you are entitled to a free meal at Safar Restaurant in Dubai Airport.  If you find this place too crowded, there are lots of other options for your dining pleasure.  The Irish Village Pub at Gate 22 is an Irish-themed restaurant with open tables and lots of Guinness gear.  This place is open 24 hours a day.  The Fast Food Court between Gate 13 and 15 has a lot of fast food outlets with continental, Lebanese, Indian and Italian options.  The Wings Bar above Gate 22 is a good, quiet place for drinks, and it offers a fie view of departing planes.  The Seafood Bar is a small eatery famous for its smoked salmon, sushi and caviar.  There are lots of other snack stops everywhere in the airport.

Shopping

Indulge in Dubai's favorite activity - shopping.  The duty-free shopping center in Dubai airport's Sheik Rashid Terminal is huge and has many products.  The best bargains are said to be in cigarettes, alcohol and jewelry.  You can also buy perfumes, tobacco, gold, electronics, fashion wear, food and spices.  If you're on a budget, just browse through the shops set in an Arabian-themed mall to while away the time. There's even a raffle held every hour.

Other services

If you are traveling with children, take them to the Airport's entertainment center, where they can have fun playing games. There's also a mother's lounge attached nearby.

There are two fully equipped business centers with ISD phones, faxes, internet-connected work stations and secretarial services to cater to your business needs which is an equivalent service to many business hotels in Dubai.

The airport is fully wireless-enabled, so you can use your laptops anywhere in there.  There are also pay-to-use computers, with internet access, where you can spend your time browsing and sending e-mail.  There are also pay phones located all over the airport.

The La Femme beauty salon is located near Gate 18.  You can have a traditional Arabic henna tattoo done on your hands.

Smoking is prohibited in the Dubai airport.  However, there are smoker's zones in the Sheikh Rashid's terminal, also known as "the concourse where you can have a quick puff."

The G Force Gym at the Dubai International Airport is a good place to fight off your jet lag and to stretch your muscles.  You can also use the swimming pool, jacuzzi, billiards table or get a quick massage done there. There are four prayer rooms in the concourse and arrival terminals of the airport, two for men and two for women.

There are several facilities for passengers with special needs.  Any passenger with special needs can avail of personalized services by just making a request in advance. Try to get to know the layout of the airport before you depart on your trip, so that you make the best use of your transit time in Dubai.

Rent a Car - Relax and Take Your Time on Your Next Vacation

If you want to prove the adage about everything being bigger in Texas without going to the boondocks and forsaking modern conveniences, then your best choice will have to be the city of Houston. It is, after all, the largest city in the largest state of the contiguous Unites States, thus, you can expect large spaces! This means, of course, that getting around can be a drag, in more ways that one.

Large Options and Considerations

Fortunately, you have many options when it comes to city car rental, Houston playing host to hundreds of establishments offering this unique service to both its visitors and residents. Whatever your purpose for renting a car in Houston - dates, weddings, honeymoons, business and vacations, to name a few - you will definitely find a car to your liking.

You can rent anything from the luxurious Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster and Rolls Royce Phantom to Chevy Cavalier and Corvette to Ford Mustang and Lincoln Town Car. Your choice, of course, depends on many factors. First, you must look at your budget. Expectedly, luxury cars will cost more than standard models in many ways, which include higher basic fees, add-on charges and late penalties, not to mention that you also have to factor in the cost of premium gas and limited mileage. As such, it pays to read the fine print proposed by the car rental Houston-based company you are planning to patronize before putting pen to paper and credit card to scanner. Second, you must determine your transportation needs in terms of comfort level, planned activities and accompanying persons. However, adequate air-conditioning is a must as Houston can be really hot and humid in the summer.

Also, if you are planning to engage in a shopping and sightseeing spree in Houston, then adequate trunk space for your shopping bags and other traveling odds and ends is a must. And it does pay to have some sort of entertainment center in the car especially when you have children travelling with you. Indeed, you must have knowledge of what you need and what you want when it comes to car rental. Houston, after all, has many of these companies operating both online and offline that it pays to narrow down your choices early on.

Large Places to Visit

You will not have to worry about getting as much mileage on your rental car while you are in Houston and the surrounding areas, which is especially true on standard models with unlimited mileage on basic fees. (This may not be applicable to luxury cars so always check with the company staff) This is Texas we are talking about and traveling in, after all.

You must start with the 337 parks and 200 green spaces scattered across the city, all of which will require your own mode of transportation to conveniently and easily get there. To name a few, you can visit Hermann Park, Lake Houston Park, Discovery Green Sesquicentennial Park, Sam Houston Park, Houston Arboretum and Nature Center and the Space Center Houston. And did we mention the equally large shopping and entertainment malls like The Galleria and the Theater District?

With the right choice from the right company specializing in car rental, Houston can be enjoyed, large spaces and all.

Lads in Amsterdam on the Flight Home

A stag holiday is where a group of males travel abroad to celebrate the fact that one of them is about to get married, they see this as a send off party to the stag before he settles. One of the most popular destinations for Briton's to go on their stag weekend is Amsterdam; they have relaxed laws on drugs and have a lively nightlife.

The UK currently spend around £600 million a year on stag or hen weekends abroad which consist of men mostly in their twenties to a minority in their fifties. A handful of these tourists are arrested and sometimes imprisoned for indecent behaviour, some stags or hens actually miss their wedding due to being imprisoned abroad.

Due to its popularity, Amsterdam is overwhelmed with visitors from the UK all year round and due to the nature of these holidays, a lot of hotels are being left in such a mess that some of the big hotels are starting to decline bookings of groups with more than six young men. This has led to increased bookings in other popular stag destinations such as Barcelona and Budapest.

This will of course benefit the visitors who like to visit the city for its culture; you can visit various museums from the van Gogh to the sex museum so there surely is something there for everyone.

Amsterdam is definitely a worthwhile visit, whether you are making the trip to sample its extravagant nightlife or to take a tour on the wonderful canals running throughout the capital you are sure to enjoy yourself.

A Sand and Sun Christmas

You might consider the beach for a great holiday get away. Many families can only travel once a year and there is no rule that you have to be in the cold to enjoy Christmas. The ambiance and spirit you will find on these holiday cruises is unmatched by any other destination. You will feel as if you have been thrust into a secret holiday destination.

Enjoy an Old Time Christmas

You can definitely enjoy a cheap Christmas vacation by taking a trip back in time. Rent a rustic cabin back in the woods and enjoy holiday traditions from days gone past. You can enjoy caroling through the woods as you search for the perfect tree to cut. Let the kids string the popcorn and make the paper chains. In the evening, you can sing carols by the fire as you sip hot cocoa by the roaring fire. Spend a few days with your family and make homemade gifts for one another. You will spend very little money and you can have a great time with your family and loved ones.

In the end, it is less about the money you spend or the location you visit. Christmas is a time for families to join together and enjoy traditions and fun. However, when you are going to travel, there is nothing wrong with looking for a cheap Christmas vacation.

Croke Park - Home of the Gaelic Athletic Association

Croke Park, or 'Croker' as it is known by locals, is not only the finest stadium in Ireland, but also one of the finest stadiums in the whole of Europe. The stadium has a capacity of 82,500, the fourth largest in Europe, and is the largest stadium under the ownership of a amateur sporting organization in the world. Croke Park is widely used throughout the year, but particularly during the summer during the All-Ireland Gaelic Football and Hurling Championships.

Croke Park stands on ground that was originally the Jones Road sports ground which was an athletics ground. The sports ground was used by the GAA after its foundation in 1884 for Gaelic Games and in 1896 the All Ireland Hurling and Football Championships were held there. The GAA recognized the importance of the ground, and Frank Dineen who was a member of the GAA borrowed £3,250 to purchase the grounds in 1908. The ground was purchased from Dineen by the GAA in 1913 and became known as Croke Park in honor of Archbishop Thomas Croke who was one of the premier patrons of the GAA.

In 1913 Croke Park had two stands where Hogan Stand now stands, and the rest of the ground was surrounded by a grassy bank. After the Easter Rising, rubble from Dublin City Center was brought to Croke Park and used to build a grassy hill on the railway end of Croke Park. This hill allowed spectators better views of the pitch, and became immortalized as Hill 16, presumingly the '16' referring to the 1916 rising. The 'Hill' is the famous viewing platform for the Dublin supporters and today holds 13,000 spectators.

During the 1920s the GAA set about building a high capacity stadium at Croke Park. In 1936 the double decker Cusack Stand was opened, In 1952 the Nally Stand was opened and in 1959 the new Hogan Stand was opened. The new Cusack Stand was built in 1966. The highest ever attendance at Croke park was 90,556 during the 1961 Senior Football Final between Offaly and Down. Croke Park remained unchanged for several decades until it was decided to completely redevelop the ground in 1991.

The design for the new Croke Park was split into four phases. Special considerations based on the way and speed that Gaelic Games are played at had to be taken into consideration, and resulted in a three tiered design. The project took 14 years to complete and had included premium level vantage points which had bars and restaurants. While the development of the ground has been completed for the moment, there is speculation that future development will include a roof for the stadium. During early 2007 floodlights were added to the stadium.

During 2003 the Special Olympics opening and closing ceremony was held in Croke Park. During 2007 the Irish Six Nations rugby clashes with France and England will be held in Croke Park and the Republic of Ireland soccer games against Wales, Slovakia, Germany and Cyprus during the redevelopment of Lansdowne Road. Without doubt Croke Park is one of the finest stadiums in the world, and an ideal showcase for Irish sport.

Enjoy Turkey's All Inclusive Holidays

At most hotels in Turkey supplying all inclusive holidays, there will likely be additional costs for extras that not every resident will use, such as certain sports or particularly expensive drinks. However, just knowing that you have your flights, transfers, hotel facilities, entertainment and even childcare covered at your hotel can be a weight off your mind.

A fine example of a resort for enjoying an all inclusive Turkey holiday is the Sirene Belek Golf & Wellness Hotel. The Sirene can offer its residents the use of a private beach, and this hotel has a vast array of activities to enjoy on your all inclusive holidays in Turkey. Sports such as volleyball, archery and table tennis are on hand; you can get fit with the Sirene's gym, aerobics, and health club. All of these are housed within an intricate building of many floors, with pointed roofs and pastel arches, set in a garden of palm trees.

Relaxation is also on the agenda with the bars, restaurants, Turkish bath, disco, swimming pools and its slides all falling under the category of all inclusive. Turkey's Belek region is where you'll find the Sirene, positioned in the centre of Anatolian Gulf in the desirable holiday destination known as the Turkish Riviera.

Along the coast to the east you'll find the Hotel Meri. This is the most long standing hotel providing all inclusive holidays in Turkey 's Ölü Deniz bay region. This is a place where you can enjoy the views of the wide lagoon and bay of Ölü Deniz, flanked by the MuÄYla Province's steep mountains. The arms of the lagoon reach across the horizon with the Aegean Sea visible beyond.

In the lagoon you'll find a wooden quay where the pedalos and kayaks are moored, and the same calm blue water laps against the Hotel Meri's private beach. This is reached by a stroll through the hotel's pleasant green garden, which is dotted with parasols and loungers. The Hotel Meri's pool is curved and surrounded by pines and palms with the resort's town centre and main blue flag beach a just a few minutes' walk away. For your meals, which will be provided as part of your all inclusive Turkey holidays you can dine on the Meri's terrace under a canopy, or outside with a view of the rolling tree-covered hills.

In the Meri and Sirene hotels, you can find good examples of the relaxing, exciting and luxurious all inclusive holidays Turkey can offer to holidaymakers. Look to hotels like these in idyllic settings, each with a variety of facilities and an all inclusive format, for holidays in Turkey that are worry free.
